Dear Ms. Shady,

Your scaring me!!! Please do not attempt to use a Dremel Drill without the proper education. This can be an extremely dangerous thing. As easy as it may look on paper you can seriously damage your nails and the surrounding skin. Dremel Drills should be saved for small jobs around the house. If you really want to invest in a drill consider purchasing one that is approved for ';Fingernail'; use only. Applying acrylic without having the proper knowledge can be very tricky. As a professional I suggest that you save your money on all the supplies and find a good licensed nail technician that can do your nails. In the long run you will save your aggravation and time. Stay away from those ';discount'; salons because the product they use is very damaging to the nails. As for recommending supplies...it's all about what you prefer. Nail brushes range from flat, round, pointed, small large and every size in between. Your choices will be limited considering that you are not a licensed professional. so you will have to stick with whatever products are sold publicly.

If you are that interested in doing your own nails, press-on nails look great or check out nail schools in the area. Best of luck to you!
well dont buy out of a drug store those do no good go to sallys beauty supply store it is a beauty product store the same ones used in saloons but it is open to the public they will have all the supplies you need
its hard to do them yourself and have them end up perfect like at a salon .you need olot of practice.

you can get all the products you need at walgreens or sallys i prefer walgreens just ask someone there and they'll help you.

How to prevent lifting in my acrylic nails?

I've had acrylics for a couple of times now, and each time I've been to a different salon. However, I noticed that my nails always start to lift after around 3-5 days, and it ruins the look for my nails. I don't want to get them filled after just a couple of days. I'm not sure if it is just my nails, because my friends' (who go with me to the same salon) nails don't lift at all. Any suggestions? How to prevent lifting in my acrylic nails?
i have been a nail tech for 15 + years and have encountered this problem, it is the shape of your nail, the acrylic lifts bcuz your nail is very round, you must have cute petite fingers, the only nails that i see like yours are small framed women w/very small nails and hands, when they apply the nail it at first tends to flatten your nail a little and then they apply the acrylic, but when your nail starts growing out it is more curved than the normal nail, so it begins to lift.....i hope i have explained this so you can understand, it's kinds hard to explain when your not sitting in front of me......but the only solution is one of two, not get your nails done, and i am sure that's not what you want, so call your salon ahead of time and see if they can supply you with a nail tip that is more curved (to the natural shape of your nail bed), they do make them, i always have them just in case, and they do come in handy, i want my clients to return and to be happy with the services i give them, the salon just uses the cheapest stuff they find and really don't care about special needs.....but good luck.....How to prevent lifting in my acrylic nails?
Ive had the same problem. It has to do with how fast ur nails grow. Although, a few of the times ive gotten them done they havent lifted. I think maybe the thinner the acrylic then the less likely to lift. If u work with water a lot then ur nails will grow a lot faster. u can throw a little glue on there.

How do women and mothers cope with these long acrylic nails?

I see these women constantly, they work and have two children at home, and the longest acrylic nails possible. How do they cope with housework and staff? How do women and mothers cope with these long acrylic nails?
I agree with you. Its really ridiculous and a health issue. I mean how to do wipe with nails that long... Very carefully I would imagine. lolHow do women and mothers cope with these long acrylic nails?
they can be use 2 them but my nail was not 2 long as U say but I no that when they wipe there butt u no what get on their nails that I no.
I used to wear acrylic nails, but they played havoc with my own. My own nails now are quite long, I work and have 2 children......I dont know about acrylics, but for me personally I dont know, I just am able to use my hands like that. I do remember though when I was first growing them and it was VERY difficult.....but like everything, you adjust , hope thats helps anyway :)
    I've always thought the nails were tacky. The designs are lovely, but I don't see WHY they want nails that long! If they are trying to say ';I have wealth, look at my nails'; they are seriously missing some muffins from the breadbasket. To me, nails like that say ';I'm ghetto-fab!';

Usually with nails that long, you CAN'T do housework. They poke holes in gloves, get in the way of the most minimal of tasks and hurt if you jab at someone or yourself (intentionally or accidentally). It takes someone with a lot of dexterity and determination to keep them as well as a home clean and happy. No thanks. I like my short ones. I can chew on them and not be afraid of being poisoned.
I would love to know myself! Especially since so much of our work these days is done on the computer and we need to use our fingers for typing...

Also, it's so easy to scratch one's child with long fingernails.

I'll be watching your answers and giving you a star for something I have often wondered about myself!
I have no idea but I wonder also. When I'm at work this 1 lady comes in and she can barely hold her pen, go through her purse, pick things up .. and she has kids! I always ask my co-workers, I wonder how she wipes her - you know what. I just don't get it!!!!!! If you can't function right, then they're too long!
they are just use to them...they are put on pretty tight so its not like they just pop off, although they can...but its really going to hurt!!
They're probably just used to them. When my son was about 5 months old I got acrylics, but not very long. I couldn't stand them, I could hardly change a diaper. Off they went and I never have had them since!!

What is the step by step process of getting acrylic nails?

I'm getting acrylic nails for the first time in 2 days %26amp; I really want to know what to expect.. (Detailed answers please)

So what are the steps of getting them? From the moment you sit in the chair til they are finished what does the tech do?

Thanks to anyone who answers! What is the step by step process of getting acrylic nails?
Too many steps involved to type in. So, just watch this video. This is how they are supposed to be done:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Omon9ccUK鈥?/a>

I can tell you some things to look out for. One is never let a nail tech use a drill on your natural nail. As you saw in the video, only a gentle hand filing is needed to remove the shine off of your nails for proper adhesion of the acrylic to your nails. If you are paying like $15-$25 for a full set, the chances are quite good you are going to a place we nails techs commonly refer to as 'discount' salons. These places are the ones that will more often than not use a Dremel drill on your natural nails. A drill should never be used on your natural nails, ever. And, a Dremel is NOT made for use on nails. But they use them anyway. Do not let them do this. If they do, just leave and find a better tech to do your nails. For more info, watch this video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rlmptKm4鈥?/a>

Also, the full set should take at least an hour - or more to complete. Discount salons skip many steps and do it in about a half hour

Remember, nail services should NEVER hurt, or cause you any pain at all - not during, or after you get your nails done. If they are causing you ANY discomfort, leave there immediately. That is a sign of an unqualified, unskilled tech.

Another thing they do - and you need to watch out for this - is that they will usually use dirty files and sanding bands on you which have also been used on other dustomers. This is an easy way to get a nasty infection, or even a disease. Also, look out for them using implements such as nippers which have not been properly disinfected. Do they pull them out of a drawer, where they are stored with other dirty tools? Or do they take them out of a disinfectant solution, wipe them, and then use them on you? Do not let anyone use dirty implements on you. Also, when they use any files on you, look at them closely before they start to use them. Do you notice any white color dust on them? If so, they have been used on others already. In short, they are dirty, and this is against the law in most states. Discount salons do not care one bit about the law, or about you either. They just want your money. Period.

Choose your salon/tech carefully. Your health is at risk. I'm quite serious about that. Watch these for more info. This is no laughing matter:

And never, ever think about getting a pedicure at these places. If you watched the videos, you will know why. What is the step by step process of getting acrylic nails?
it will probably go something like this -

they will file and buff your nails, then cut a small piece of material to place on top of your nail, glue it down, put some more goop or gel on top of that, and file it down until it is smooth. Most places use a machine drill type of thing to help file it down to make the process a little faster, and the nails smoother. Then finish with the polish.

I just posted a question about the Light-Concept manicure. If they offer it by you, maybe you should look into it. It does not damage your nail supposedly like regular wraps / acrylics do. I never had that done (light Concept), so I am curious about it as well.
they complete mess ur nails up underneath. they get soft, yellow, and thin

What are the acrylic nails that get bigger at the tip called?

I'm refering to how some women get their nails done and the tip gets bigger as it goes out. I also was wondering if there is a proper name for stiletto nails (the nails that become skinnier %26amp; pointier towards the tip.) thanks in advance. What are the acrylic nails that get bigger at the tip called?
They are called flared nails. And yes, stiletto is the proper term for the other nails you described.
