Acrylic nails?

Besides having to get them filled every 2 weeks or so, how often do you need to get them completely changed?

And, when you do, how long should you wait between taking them off %26amp; getting them put back on?Acrylic nails?
i get mine completely changed about every 6-8 weeks, but i don`t skip time between applications...Acrylic nails?
You should most certainly give your real finger nails time to air out after acrylic applications. 6-8 weeks on and 6-10 days off. It will promote better health for your nails and hands.
I've been getting my acrylics done every 2 weeks for several years. I get a backfill every other time and most of the acrylic is drilled down. I've had no problems whatsoever, and my nails look clear and healthy underneath. I think its a matter of finding a very meticulous nail tech.

Some people prefer to soak the acrylic off each time in acetone and start fresh, but I think that's rougher on your nails and cuticles.
I always have my nails done. i've been doing it for years. It depends on how fast your nails grow. I've had these on for about a month now. Im barely going to get fills on friday. When I get them totally done again is when i can see my natural growing nail under the acrylic. then i cut them down and file the rest of the acrylic so that it is even with my natural nail and then i get them re-done. DONT BITE OR RIP THEM OFF. this makes your natural nail rip and become sensitive. If your natural nails feel tender, then wait untill they dont before getting them done. this means that the natural nail is too thin. Remember that your manicurist cant feel what you feel.

Acrylic Nails?

I brought some good quality acrylic nails that I am going to wear for prom but I want to know the best way to wear them. I mean ways to keep my real nails semi-healthy, and what is the best method of removal?Acrylic Nails?
dont soak them in nail polish remover.... the best way is to soack a cotton ball with acetone and then lay it on top of the nail and then wrap foil around your finger. do that to every nail and then leave them for about 20 to 30 mins

that will get them off believe me =]] ive done it plenty of timesAcrylic Nails?
soak in acetone to remove. You are gonna have to apply with super glue. There is really no real healthy way to do it. Just let them soak off the right way. Don't pull off. Also apply some nail conditioner on them before applying. should help some.
the best way to do it without as much damage to your nails is to soak them in nail polish remover. you soak them for about 10 minutes, them file off the softened top layer, then do that over and over and over again.

Acrylic nails?

I love wearing acrylic on my nails, but, everytime I take them off, my nails look horrible. It's like the acrylic is making my nails thinner. What is the best way,if any, to salvage a nail after taking acrylic off?Acrylic nails?
my suggest is that don`t wear acrylic nails if you already have thin nails.. because it can lead to the process of burning nails when you get refills. take a vitamin called BIOTIN. it should work help strenghten your nails.. massing cuticles and cutting them wouldn`t help your nails grow.. go to a nail salon and ask them for OPI nail strenghtener.. it's the best streghtener around apply 2 coats.. take them off after 2 weeks so they can breath and reapply... the secret to getting beautiful nails is to keep them in tip top shape.. file them down to a short size and do not buffer unless you plan to put polish ontop..Acrylic nails?
You can try by massaging your cuticles and nails that grow out with a strengthening protein oil or lotion (i.e. try sally's beauty supply store for product or sally hansen products)....This way your nails will be a little less horrible looking after the fake nails come off. Some people ';pop'; their nails off and don't have to deal with the thinning nails and painful touch to the nail. Try it, it should help make wearing acrylic's a little easier.
Buff your nails w/ a buffer. Then apply NAILTEK STRENGTHNER. It's awesome. You apply 1-2 coats daily, before you know it your nails will be super strong. It also will help to start taking Vitamin E. Good luck. :)
its not the actual acrylics that are doing that it is because they have to buff your nails down. (do they use that little spinny electric buffer thing?) if so then that is the problem. also the acrylic nails put a bunch of pressure on the nails. try wearing acrylics for 2weeks then taking a break before wearing them again. but for now try to let them heal by not wearing acrylics and by applying some Sally Hansen Green Tea Nail stuff (sorry dont know the real name but it is by sally hansen and it has green tea in it) on your nails.
sop wearing them and let ur nails grow i did that and im fine also if not do them in a professional place
Unfortunatly, there isnt. The glue used to make the nails stick, eats your acrylic and the top layer of your nail. After a while your nails will become paper thin! Nails that use a sticker are better, but fall off and still make your nails thinner. Try to paint your own nails with a french manicure set and get them professionally done. Use the money you would have spent on fake nails to beutify your real nails. Also try using nail strengthener and a nail polish removal that helps keep nails healthy. This should help your nails! Good Luck!
1st of all acylyc nails are tacky and trash especially if you but a billion designs and colors.

do a manicure french one color only but that fake nail stuff is gross. guys think so too. its like a trashy girl stamp.

Acrylic nails?

hello

i have a bad habit of biting my nails. so i was thinking about getting acrylic nails, not long ones. what are the risks about getting them? what about maintenence? because i have heard some bad things about fungus and such, and i was wondering if someone had opinions about this or alternatives?

thanksAcrylic nails?
i had acrylic nails twice-- once for prom and once for fun. Both times i absolutely hated it! i used to bite my nails like crazy, so i also thought this might help. but... it didnt. instead of biting, i picked at the nails constantly. (my other bad habit is picking scabs). anyway, they tear up your real fingernail and make them quite thin, so when your acrylic nails come off (in a few weeks) your nails look really crappy and they're really sore and irritated. at least mine were. it's sort of one of those things you have to keep maintence with. plus, theyre so freaking expensive.

oh, but as for my nail-biting habit! I decided to start filing my nails everyday and painting them pretty nude shades. then i got a pretty ring to wear. somehow, this helped me break my habit and made me really proud of my pretty natural nails.

biting your nails isnt such a bad habit though. picking scabs is much worse, as im still battling that one.Acrylic nails?
theres always a chance of geting fungus but im soooo glad iv never had it and iv had acrylic nails off and on for about 7 years. you have to go back every 2 weeks for a fill and its around 12 for fill and extra for white tip or designs. but your better off useing this liquid thing they sell at a drug store that you apply like nail polish and it taste so bad that you will NOT want to do that anymore
I have had acrylics for like ever and they are not dangerous. They do tend to cost money but it is totally worth it because they look really nice. The catch is that they can ruin your real nails and cause your real nails to grow slower.
when you take off acrylic nails off your nails become weaker. maintenence wise you would need a refill about every 2 weeks. just be sure to wash under your nails with a brush and antibacterial soap daily
I had the acrylic nails years ago for a couple of years. You have to go every two weeks to get them filled in and that's an expense. They are pretty darn hard to chew tho! I know, because I used to be a biter too. (I broke that habit by switching to sunflower seeds in the shell to keep hands and mouth busy). Also, when I felt my nails had grown sufficiently under the acrylics I had them removed. My natural nails were like grape skins, and it took me over a year to grow them healthy again. Maybe this wouldn't happen if I hadn't had them on a couple of years, I really don't know. So, my advice is either try them for a couple of months and then remove them so you don't get that problem, or just go and get a professional manicure every couple of weeks and that makes your nails look nice and they stay healthy. I also noticed if I went without polish I would start nibbling again. I think when they look nice, it makes you back off on biting. Another product I swear by is ';Sally Hanson's hard as nails';. I believe it gives your nails a chance to grow because it protects them very well. Good luck with your nails and I hope I've been of some help!
you will have to get them filled-in about every two weeks.

The one thing about acrylic nails I don't like is they file the top of your real nail so the adhesive would allow the acrylic nail to stick., then, whenever you decide to let them grow naturally you will have dents in the nail until they grow out.

Fungus is something to be concerned about however, if you go to a reputable nail salon you should be OK.

I think the solar/gel type nails last longer, they cost a little more but are worth it. They seem to me to be more natural looking.
Shelley is right, Gel is more durable than Acrylic, and looks more ';natural'; when you get a french manicure. Either way, once you get your full set, you will need to go every 2-3 weeks to have them ';filled';. Fungus is a possibility so make sure the place you go to is clean - ask around and see where your friends go, how long have they gone there, etc. An alternative would be to go for regular manicures every couple of weeks...some people say that helps to keep your nails strong, plus if they look nice because you have polish on them, you might be less likely to bite them :) Good luck.
well actually i do the same as you.. and as a matter of fat..i have some on right now!! but no, i dont get any weird funguses at all.. n the only thing you really have to do is keep them away from fire, wash your hands when you get done eating tht way you dnt get food build up underneath your nails and if you do i use a tooth pick to get out any of the food thts underneath the nails.. oh yeah, and when you get them, wait for them to wear off or brake off..bcz if not then when you try n rip them off you rip off some of your nail.. =)
I get my nails done all the time

BUT

DON'T GET ACRYLIC!

Get GEL they are durable and they last longer they cost a bit more but your less likely to get a fungus with them as well!

  • Acrylic nails?

I tend to bite my nails when I'm bored, so I got acrylic (and tips) on my nails to help them grow out. It's been about 2 months and they have grown out nicely, but I would like to take the acrylic off. Is there something else I can put on them that will keep them strong (so I can't bite them) but that I don't have to have my nails filed down to use?Acrylic nails?
use a nail hardener i like rejuvacote but they all work the same...only thing is is that it takes a while for the thin nails to grow out so don't get discouraged just apply the hardener to your nails once every other day,Acrylic nails?
As nice as your nails look when you get them done (coming from somebody who loves to get her nails done) it really isn't good for your nails at all. Everyone told me but of course I was more interested in having my nails look nice rather then listening to them and keep from ruining my nails. When they put acrylic on your nails they usually fine your nail first which isn't good for your nail and then with the glue and all the filing they do after wards to bond your nail with the acrylic it basically destroys your nails. You'll notice when you take the acrylic off that your nails will be very brittle and thin and they'll probably have all kinds of dents in them from where the acrylic was. They'll be much thinner then your nails ever were to begin with and this is why most people who get acrylic nails usually keep getting them done every 2 or 3 weeks. The best thing for you to do is go to the beauty supply store and buy a bottle of pure acetone (not nail polish remover) pure some in a bowl and hold your nail in there for about 30-40 seconds take it out use a towel or cotton swap to wipe off the acrylic and repeat that step until all the acrylic is completely off of the nail (this may take a while so use a file to file some of it off if possible and it's usually best to go finger by finger) once you have all the acrylic off of your nails clip your nails completely off so that you start the growth process all over again (because you'll notice your natural nails are too thin and damaged to work with) so if you clip them off and try and grow them again without the acrylic you may get lucky and have healthy nails again if the acrylic hasn't permanently damaged them. I usually use a product called Calcium Nail Builder from Sally Beauty Supply but I'm sure every Beauty Supply store has their own brand so just look for nail calcium, this works pretty good for me. Stay away from the acrylic / UV Gel from now on they're no good for your nails, good luck.
There is something you can apply to your nails that will prevent you from biting them, yes. Go to your local pharmacy and ask them if they can order this for you. I forget the name of it, but it's a liquid that you brush onto your nails that has a very bitter taste to it. Trust me, you will NOT bite your nails with this on them. It works great, I just wish I could remember the name of it, but your pharmacy will know. I have had to go to the WalMart pharmacy before to get it and sometimes they have it on hand behind the counter and sometimes they have to order it. It's only a couple of dollars and it works like a charm. Just use as directed and you will not chew/bite your nails as long as you're wearing this. (it's colorless, so you don't have to worry about it having a color to it....no one will even know you're wearing it, which makes it great for men as well.) Good luck!
Chances are, after two months your nails will be just as brittle if not more so than they were before. Having the acrylic on top of your nails actually wears them down, makes them less strong because they haven't breathed in two months. Chances are when you take them off, even if you stop biting them, they will still break, flake and peel just because they haven't been able to grow properly.
I used to have the same problem with my nails and what I did to slove my problem was....You can go to any Wal-Mart and buy a hard as nails w/ a nail bitting formula to stop the chewing.I will swear by the product.I cant remember the name of it but it will tell you right on the bottle. good luck with stopping if my soulution dont work for ya

    Acrylic nails?

I have acrylic nails. I need to get them filled %26amp; was wondering what the price usually runs for a fill. Also i wanna get them hot pink with black tips. do they just airbrush that? about how much does that cost?

btw. it cost me $30 for a full set. idk if that helps or not.Acrylic nails?
it varies, sugar; some fill-ins are as little as $10, others $15 or more...depends on where you go but it's most likely about half the price you paid for a full set...just hot pink/black is probably polish only, no extra charge, but designs are airbrushed and cost a little more...you didn't ask but i will caution you that acrylic nails are bad and will absolutely ruin your natural nails...

    Acrylic nails?

I really want to get acrylic nails but my parents wont let me. Is thier anyway i can convince them to let me get them?Acrylic nails?
Their not a big deal, it's just for one time.

Tell them you'll get short, classy ones, coz if you get them too long, that might look a little vulgar.

While it is true that wearing acrylic nails continuously does damage your nails, if you only do it ones in a while, the damage will be minimal.

They stay for about 2 weeks.

If your parents don't let you get them right now, wait for a special occassion: like a wedding, then they'll probably say yes.Acrylic nails?
First off how old are you? Second who do you want to pay for them?? As an acrylic nail wearer for the past 10 years, up until recently I found out I was pregnant and they are not good for the baby...I love them however, I waited until I was 18 to get them done...They are not cheap, and if you do not keep them looking good aka filled every two to three weeks they look like junk..If you are under 16 you need to wait..maybe start with getting a manicure vs acrylics..It looks silly to see little girls with fake nails and the chemicals are not very good for you...I am not getting mine put back on I have had a serious decline in headaches since I had mine removed!!

If you take a good multivitamin your nails will grow naturally, and your parents didn't say you couldn't grow your nails out did they? So just don't worry about looking grown up get a $12.00 manicure, tip your nail tech $2.00...and save the other ten dollars you would have spent in an interest bearing savings account and by the time you are 18 poof...you may be able to buy yourself a new car or something else..Mom and Dad know what they are talking about..try what I suggested and in 3 months if your nails don't look great on their own between a manicure (which you and your friends can give each other) and a good multivitamin and some clear nail polish..like Sally Hansen strong nails...you will not even want acrylic nails yours will look so good~!!!!!!
well search for a safe clean salon and save up for it and tell them u want it for the first to weeks to see if u like it .maybe then they will let u
I wouldn't recomend them. I used to get them and my nails are messed up from taking them off.
tough luck go with ur mom and get them dont together
how old r u? why wont they let u?

i guess just go get them...

or no beause they migh tend up ripping your nails off haha

just bug your mom about it and bring it up all the time until you get her tired :P..
Ask if you can do something around the house to earn them? Tell them they are just nails not like they dont come off.
Next time you're at the grocery or local drug store, go down the make-up asile with mom and show her the nails and the different options for applying the nails. They have the glue-ons and the stick-ons. Make sure you pick something conservative at first. Pulling out the three inch long set with rhinestones and red and black stripes probably won't go over well.

She may however be more concerned about the long term health of your fingernails. They can damage them. But most teen girls do wear them (so did I) and I don't see anything wrong with it if you're in at least junior high.
