What do you guys think about acrylic nails on a girl?

I have them now, sometimes I won't have them for a while, but sometimes I do.What do you guys think about acrylic nails on a girl?
My husband LOVES them on me. He thinks they are very pretty and also likes me to scratch his back with them. And give him a scalp massage with them. They feel good for that =)

I do just a bit of white at the tips.

And he cares less when I don't have them, though, too! What do you guys think about acrylic nails on a girl?
They are just a pain in the butt to deal with. I hate having to get them filled every week. And it's not worth the pain when they break off. I would rather have a natural nail any way.
some might hate them, some might love them. but

you probably lost most of them at the word ';acrylic.';
Guys really don't care just as lone as they look nice and half of them don't' even know what they are.
pretty feminine, but tht's not....(um how can i say this w/o being perverted)....a feature of women's anatomy i've really focused on...( couldn't think of anything, could have only been said 1 way)
i have had mine for almost five years and my boyfriend loves them on me, so i would say they don't care unless they are ugly.
I dont like them.

its totally fake,

fake is out.

who grows big white things with pretty glitter designs NATURALLY?

come on. get REAL now.
Personally I like natural
Horrible, complete turn off.
80% of us don't know what acrylic nails are.

Including me.
trassshhyy
There okay, but to be completely honest I could care less what nails a girl has...
i think you should explain what acrylic nails are
Not a fan.
I think of prostitution when I see those... so yeah, that should give you an idea.
i'm a girl but i'll answer, it looks fake and it's not pretty

How do I remove these stupid acrylic nails?

I had acrylic nails put on yesterday and I hate them. I can't type, I can't change the babys nappy and they really hurt. Every time I touch them they hurt my fingers. So I remove them? Will it be harder because I only just had them put on?

This is what I get for being vain. How do I remove these stupid acrylic nails?
soak them in acetone nail varnish remover for at least half an hour and file them down if they dont budge! or go back to the nail shop and pay 拢10 to get them removed xxHow do I remove these stupid acrylic nails?
The best thing to do is go to a nail salon and have the people remove them for you. Don't bite them off. It will make your nails beds really sore. If you don't have the time to go to a nail salon then what you can do is get some nail polish remover and soak your fingers in it and the acrylic nails should melt off or get soft. If they don't completely melt off then you can pick them off if they are soft or just soak them longer. This may take a lot of time but it will work.
I had my nails done once and i ended up taking them off the next day because i could not change my kids diapers(you call them nappies), i could not type like you just said and my fingers hurt also.I called a friend of mine who went to beauty school and said to SOAK them in nail polisher removed that has Acatone in it.I did that but it still was a ***** to get them off.It took me hrs to get them off and the acrylic did not all come off at once either some of it was still stuck it came off over time. I haven't got the nails done since lol im just not use to having long nails and they suck when you have kids.
They take time to get used to. No one is more virtuous for not having them.

Anyway, what I always advise is taking a cotton ball and saturating it in acetone, place it on your nail and wrap each nail in foil. It will take about 30 minutes and they should be melted enough to scrape off. I would advise waiting a couple of days because it sounds like they damaged your cuticle area (shouldnt happen with a good tech) so putting acetone on them so soon might hurt
its probably because u just had them put on, you will get used to them in a few days. but if you really want them off head down to the drug store/pharmacy and buy some acetone. soak em in there, it dissolves the acrylic cement that binds the fake nail on.

oh i should also add, they almost destroy your nail putting them on so they bind well to your real nails, so you should invest in some nail strengthening treatments too because your nails will look shocking for a few weeks after.
I understand the hurt, you must have just received a new full set! I would recommend keeping them since you wanted your hands to look nice anyway. The throbbing pain will subside in a few days, if not then try this.....( the link)

it was a previously asked question and got good answers
Soak them in Acetone, you can buy it at drugstores. You have to do it for a while or it doesnt work. Try filing them down to a comfortable size otherwise?
Usually you need something with acetone in it to soften the glue.

DON'T bite them off, it leaves behind glue and it ruins your nails.
You can go back to the nail place and they will take them off for you. It takes longer than it did to get put on and is painful.

How do I keep my french acrylic nails that I got done at the salon, from looking bad?

I got my nails done a week ago, and I usually wait 3 weeks before getting them filled. The edges around the bottom always look tacky beacause they lift up and I was wondering if there was some way I could make them look better. How do I keep my french acrylic nails that I got done at the salon, from looking bad?
you can file the bottom gunk off, and then paint them with clear nail polish. How do I keep my french acrylic nails that I got done at the salon, from looking bad?
get them done every 2 weeks
They have over the counter supplies that you can get at any pharmacy. If they are popping up, they weren't applied correctly. You can use an itty bitty bit of superglue to re adhere them. If they already need to be filled in, purchase the powder and fill them in. DO NOT use Acetone nail polish remover to take off the polish. It makes the superglue come apart. You MUST use NON ACETONE nail polish remover.
Stay away from washing dishes , unless you wear gloves ! Alcohol is a sure killer !
if you want your nails to look nice at all times you need to make an appointment every two wks. i would not even mess with them it makes matters worse.
You have to be super careful with Acrylics when they start to separate from the nail. This causes water to get in between the nail and the acrylic and will cause a fungal infection. Luckily this fungus is very easy to see b/c it will look like dirt or green stuff under your nail.Mine sometimes separate at the top if I wait too long for a fill but if they are separating from the bottom you need to talk to your nail tech about using stronger glue or letting the acrylic set longer or something.

If your nail tech doesn't take this seriously I would find another b/c if you ever wear color you might not notice a fungus and they can get so bad that you would lose your nail, unlikely since you see someone every three weeks but still something to think about.

Some people's nails grow faster than others and you may just be one of those people that has to go more often.
First, quit getting acrylic. They lift to easily. Get gel. Don't wait three weeks, go every two. Also, try not to get them too long, that makes them lift faster. Try not to wash dishes too much without using gloves, and type too much!

What brand should I use to do my own acrylic nails?

Here is a link to a website that has great quality, safe products at very reasonable prices. I do my own acrylics, I buy from here and just love the product.

I recommend the ';Original System';

  • What are the health dangers of breathing fumes from acrylic nails?

I work in an office next to a nail salon. The fumes from the acrylic nails permeate into our office space to the point where you'd think we were the nail salon. Its awful and even our customers complain. What are the health dangers of breathing fumes from acrylic nails?
Cancer is a risk. The biggest one is that the people may have fungus on their nails when the powder is ground off (which is the powder that flys in the air). You may be breathing in the fungus. Nasty, huh? What are the health dangers of breathing fumes from acrylic nails?
Asked a guy I know who is a chemist. He used to work with the same chemicals in the lab. They had to have tight monitoring of levels and they could only be used in a fume cabinet. He says he is amazed that OH%26amp;S allows them to operate like they do. Try looking up MSDS's of Ethyl Methacrylate and Methyl Methacrylate to get some info

What other then monomer can be used to do acrylic nails?

Can I make that liquid myself ? do I HAVE to use a monomer in order to do acrylic nails? What other then monomer can be used to do acrylic nails?
umm dont cheap out and do it yourself. im a guy so i may not know these things, but they are made by professionals for a reason. in case you make a mistake and end up making mustard gas ( highly killer toxic gas) you want nails go get a manicure or pedicure

How do girls with very long acrylic nails maintain their hygiene?

I know this may sound funny (and it is kind of) but this question has bothered me for a while but I've never had the guts to actually ask someone. I had gotten some a few months ago and they were not long at all. But they were very uncomfortable. I can't understand how women with those long nails do. If you have or have had extremely long nails I want to know how do you do your daily tasks? How do you wipe yourself? Do you clean down there? How do girls with very long acrylic nails maintain their hygiene?
hmmm extra TP in the bathroom. a washcloth or sponge for downstairs. one of those nail-cleaning sticks for under the nails.... long fake nails help for washing your hair, so i have found, because you can really dig into your hair with the shampoo %26amp; conditioner, giving your hair a really deep clean.

i think acrylics are uncomfortable at first too but i got used to them within a week. but they rip my contact lenses so i cant wear them much :( but i better get ready for them because prom is next month! haha

good question! How do girls with very long acrylic nails maintain their hygiene?
    always wondered that myself...
    Very, very carefully!!!
people still do that? i thought that went out of style in 02 or something, I always thought they were so ugly anyways.
It is a really stupid question.

Fake or not women with long nails can be just as clean as ones that don't have them.
Dont play with your cltoris let your man do it
Well, my nails aren't really long, and some women do have them long, but you get a washcloth and use it. nails dont really make a factor, because something else is washing you.

If they were uncomfortable to you, when I have the fake nails you buy at the store on... my mouth swells up a bit, and It only happens the first few days, but it's some sort of chemical in the glue or the nails. Not sure which one.

Ask your nail lady though, that's what she's there for. Dont get really long nails if you aren't comfortable with them.
Perhaps they use a reaching tool or a robotic buttwiper.

How to get acrylic nails off?

i went and got acrylics at a salon, and now i need to know the trick to getting them off without just ripping them off. I have no money to get them removed at the salon so home remedies and such is what i am looking for!How to get acrylic nails off?
It should never, ever be painful to remove acrylic nails. Soak them in acetone for at least a half hour. It will take some time, but they will come off without any pain. How to get acrylic nails off?
pour some nail polish remover into a bowel and soak them for 20 minutes or so. then, wiggle a nail or two and see if it's gotten any looser. If not, continue to soak for 10-20 minute increments. Unfortunately you will wind up having to do some prying to get them off..I suggest trying to fit the tip of a metal nail file under a bottom corner and slowly wiggling it underneath the rest of the nail, pulling it off. It's gonna hurt, but there's not really any easy way to get them off without going to the salon. You could also cut the tip off of the nails with nail clippers. good luck!
Ok not just any nail polish remover will do. You have to have acetone to dissolve acrylics. Soak them in it and once in a while sort of scrape off the ';melted'; acrylic with an orangewood stick. When it weakens, some will come off in chunks. It takes a while to do this, so i'd watch a movie or something while you do it.
You can soak them but no matter what your still going to have to rip them off. Your nails will be really thin after too. Don't pay to have it done, it is much more painful.
Get some liquid nail polish remover and put it in a bowl. Then put your nails in there and leave them for about 10 mins. If they dont come off then, then leave them in lobger and soon they shoukld come off. =D
soak them in hot water soap and nailpolish remover
    hot water.. soak em

Do you think acrylic nails are out of style?

I have noticed a lot of people are keeping there real nails instead of acrylic. I am trying to decide if I will get acrylic or if I should just keep my real nails. My real nails grow long so I don't know if I should even bother getting acrylic. What do you think?Do you think acrylic nails are out of style?
don't bother getting them acrylic, they mess up your nails sooo bad...go get your own nails done (a manicure)Do you think acrylic nails are out of style?
Acrylic nails hold a ton of germs and bacteria, even more than real nails. Plus they are a waste of money... try putting $30 in a jar every week that you would have had to pay to get them filled and in only one year you will have $1560 in that jar... then the nails don't sound like such a good idea do they??
the only reason i get acrylic is bc i bite my nails. if i had long nails i would just get my real nails done. When getting acrylic your nails grow not that strong bc they shave it down alittle bit to put the acrylic on.
No i don't think they are out of style loads of people have them but i need help people! i don't know if to get them because they might reack my real nails and They cost alot but please help me?
like, no one has arcylics now.

its better for your nails and prettier and cleaner if you just cut your nails really short and paint the like deep pruple or lots of coats of clear.
Natural is better. I think most acrylic is...icky.
I always just get white tips.

    :)

they will never go out of style.
    real..duh
    well yea, sorta.

it depends how old you are though.
NO WAY! EVEN IF I GET THEM REALLY SHORT THEY WILL ALWAYS BE IN

Ways to remove acrylic nails that have been professionally done?

they are growing out %26amp; look terrible. but i dont want to get them filled, im just done with them. how do i remove them?Ways to remove acrylic nails that have been professionally done?
Pls don't listen to the first answer. Do not cut off the tips/nails. You can cause damage. Put acetone in a glass or metal bowl. Just enough to cover your nails. Use an old nail file, the coarser the better. File the edge of your nails as well as the whole nail. Soak for 5 minutes, then wipe your nails on a paper towel. File again, soak, and wipe. Keep repeating until all the product is gone. You should also apply cuticle oil, and a nail hardener once finished. This is the safest and best way to remove acrylic! Good luck!Ways to remove acrylic nails that have been professionally done?
You need to saok it ina bowl of acetone jus ur fnails not ur hands or fingers for bout 20-30 mins thn theyll be really soft use a cuticle pusher to scrub thm off ur nails after tht wipe ur nails wit a napkin saoked in acetone if ur nails dnt come out thicck jus buff thm thn id suggest getting thm treated by going to the salon or buying a nail kit which ever.
cut them down the size of your natural nail. then file file file the tops..then go to the store and buy acetone (at any drugstore.) put the acetone in a bowl (glass one would be good or else it can melt) and then put that bowl in a bigger bowl of hot water. let it soak for a long time, i know its boring but it leaves them with the least damage. pull them out and file file file the tops ..keep soaking and filing until their all off.

What's the difference between powder and gel acrylic nails?

my friend and i are going to get our nails done at a salon and were wondering what kind we should get. there's a choice between gel and powder, but we have no idea which ones last longer, *look better*, feel better, yadayadayada. any info about acrylic nails is great. just don't say how bad it makes your nails, we totally know and we're going to do it anyways. What's the difference between powder and gel acrylic nails?
One is the difference is in the product. Gel tends to be softer and breaks more easily, where acrylic is much more durable, but damages your nails. It makes your nails very brittle and breaks very easily. The other difference is that Gels are said to be less damaging. The only reason for this is because of the filing process. Gels require a lot less filing on the natural nail. As to where acrylics usually have the drill and alot more work. What's the difference between powder and gel acrylic nails?
So how much did that cost you?

Go for the gel, they really shine and last so much, much longer. Powder ones will look ugly after you wash your hands so many times.
Definitley get Gel... I have them right now!

One time I got acrylic and It made my nails realy sore for some reason. Wierd, huh? Get the gel because its more sanitary... even though it costs like 5 bucks more (:

    Every 3 months
I agree with the one above me, you dont want to get a fungus or have to have a REAL nail removed! It sux trust me
you should take them off and never replace them!!

They are very out of date and so germy. Short nails with a nice manicure are more in now. I have very soft nails that peel so I use nailtiques. It works awesome.
nails acturally need to breath if they don't they can get infected and then you will need to go to the doctor and get some pills to fix the problem which also those pills can affect your liver, so I say let them grow out otherwise it won't just be finger nail problems.
Well, once you start refilling them, your nails grow out. Eventually, the nails are your own. You should let your nails breathe. So maybe every few months, take them off and leave them for a bit. I wouldn't recommend taking them off just to have them put back on, because it hurts to take them off and it can damage your nails greatly.

Is it possible to have acrylic nails if you bowl?

if anyone ever messes up on you

make a complaint, you could get your nails for free or a discount if they cut you
The most i pay is 45$ and thats cuz they do designs by hand not airbrush and i usually pay about 3-5 in a tip...and um i usually don't get a cut so idk if you would give them a tip if they cut you...lol
omg ur lucky in my town acrylics are $100

you usually give them $5 or that's what i do but i do that with a regular $7 mani because those ppl in the nail salon don't make enough money and if they do any harm to you it should BE FREE
I pay 25.00 for a full set, and 15.00 for a fill. I usually tip around 3-5 dollars. I have never been cut, but I guess if I did I would maybe tip a 1.00 lol. Good luck.
25 for a full set, 15 for a fill-in. i usually tip 5 bucks. if they cut you, let them know, you might get a free service.
yeah ur about right. my mom got this uv gel nail thing and they look like you real nails!!! they are good. just tip then like 2 dollars or like more.
I'd pay no more than $20 and tip them from $5 to $10. If they cut you tip them a small amount, that's if they done a good job.
    $45
    i would pay $20.00

Soak in alcohol or salt water. Then take tweezers and pull softly. What is the best way to remove acrylic nails with out damaging my nails?
I agree soak them in acetone!
Use pure acetone and remove them slowly. Use an orange stick to gently lift the edge of the acrylic nail until it becomes soft enough to gently pull it off then use a very fine emery board to smooth out the ridges left behind. Finish with a clear coat of polish.
use pure acetone, thats what they use in pro shops.
Like everyone said use acetone. I have seen bottles of artificial nail remover at longs and walgreens, not sure whats in them but its worth looking into. Just dont pull them off, I had a friend (male) who we talked into going to the salon with use, a few hours later he was sporting a new set of acrylic nails (long and pink). After we got home and told him that they are extremly hard to remove and would have to wear them for about a month he freaked and tore them off damaging his nails really bad. :(
Soak your nails in nail polish remover with acetone. It will loosen the acrylic nails and if you leave your fingers in long enough dissolve them. However, your nails will be very soft and it will take a while for healthy nails to grow out so be prepared.

Is there a chemical that I can buy to soak my nails off, or a home remedy that will do the trick? What is the best way to get acrylic nails off at home without going to a nail salon to get them taken off?
Get the strongest nail polish remover you can find, and give your nails a REALLY good soak. Don't try ripping them off, or clipping them off, as it can really damage your nail beds. What is the best way to get acrylic nails off at home without going to a nail salon to get them taken off?
they usually have acrylic nail remover you can purchase at any drug store. it's gentle enough so you can soak your nails and it won't leave nasty ridges.
soak em in nail polish remover.
Soak them for awhile in Pure Acetone. Pour it into a bowl and hold your fingers into it.
If you can get to a beauty supply store, look for pure acetone and soak your nails in that for about 10 minutes. It should dissolve most, if not all of the acrylic and glue.
I usually cut the tips off w/ clippers and then cut away from the bottom...sometimes it really hurts but its the only way I have been able to get them off.
Never had that problem I have long nails natural. Drink lots of milk get lots of calcium. Maybe you could use, vinegar and Soda mix in water,or alcohol.

    Queen Bee
Nail polish remover. Be sure it is not acrylic nail safe or it won't work. The old fashion remover should do it.
buy the acetone polish remover...the acetone will eat them away...takes awhile so be patient...ripping...pulling..cracking them off hurts like h**l
cut the longest parts off then soke them in nail polish remover that peels the glue off.

I don't like patterns. I think it looks tacky and trashi. I like solid colors and I also like natural nails. But that's just me :)

How can I get my acrylic nails to stop lifting?

I recently got acrylic nails for the first time. About 2 days later, I noticed that they started lifting on the side. I went back to the nail salon and they fixed it for free by clipping off the lifted portion of the nail and reapplying the filling. But a few days later it happened again! Any suggestions??How can I get my acrylic nails to stop lifting?
Find another nail salon, that shouldn't happen. If it does happen again, it may be the oils that your body secretes. The natural oils on the hands is one reason why nail polish does not stay on the natural nail. How can I get my acrylic nails to stop lifting?
buy nail glue that is used for fake nails and apply it where they lift. that's what i do. but you should really go somewhere else and get higher quality.
I dont think there is anything you, yourself, can do. I had this problem and had to get a new tech...it could just be your nails though and how they are reacting to the chemicals.
never get them again they ruin your nails
ask to take it all off and redo it!!! mayb the lady that did ur nails messed up!! get a new lady!!!:)
    put more glue
get them redone..they should not be lifting and that can cause fungus to start...they are not done properly......

How hard is it to do your own acrylic nails?

I always see the stuff do it at the store, but it looks hard to do yourself. Has anyone else tried it?How hard is it to do your own acrylic nails?
As a nail tech, I don't suggest that anyone without formal nail training do their own nails. There are simply too many things that can go wrong. And, those kits have really cheap stuff in them. I don't suggest wasting your money on them. No. And yes, it is hard to do your own nails, and make them look good. Especially with no training and a $7 kit from a drugstore. How hard is it to do your own acrylic nails?
It really isn't the application that's hard, it's applying it in the right amounts and in the right places, and then filing to the right shape that takes some practice. It took me about 6 tries before I could sculpt a decent set of nails and file them properly. Even then, it took many more sets to be able to do them without taking two hours.
if your talking about like a box of nails from the store. like glue on then its really easy. they just dont look as good. and dont stay on as long, and they are way chaeper.but that is what i had first just to see if i like them. but there are like 50 different kinds, so you can pick if you want design and how long you want them. if you arent talking aobut those then i dont really get your question

It is difficult I would advise against it, when I tried I made a huge mess of the product and my nails

How do i keep my acrylic nails shiny?

i live on a farm so with the work they get all scratched up. i tried the 4-sided file buffer thing but that didnt seem to do any good. what can i do to keep them looking new?How do i keep my acrylic nails shiny?
You need a good shiner, alonlg with a buffer. But, if you got your nails done at a cheapo salon, there is not much you cn do about it because they typically use the cheapest possible acrylic products, and they look horrible without polish. That is why thay are so big on polish at those places - to hide their inferior workmnship.

If you get top quality acrylics applied, then a buffer will work juist fine - as long a you are doing it the right way. There is really no need for nail polish when they are buffed and shined correctly. After you finish shining them, apply a few drops of cuticle oil on each nail and massage into your nails and cuticle area. This will really bring out the shine! How do i keep my acrylic nails shiny?
I would imagine you want a simple solution so my suggestion to you is to get a good quality topcoat to apply every few days. One I like is Super Shiney by Creative Nail Design.
I always get a gel overlay on my acrylic nails. That keeps them super shiny and prevents them from getting scratched up. Its only like $5 extra, and worth it. Try it
    find a really good buffer.

I just removed my acrylic nails and my real nails are ruined whats a quick fix?

I just removed my acrylic nails and my real nails are ruined whats a quick fix? They've been on a month or two but i start anew job where i couldn't have them :( so now i need to do something about my brittle gross flaky nailsI just removed my acrylic nails and my real nails are ruined whats a quick fix?
i would recommend using a clear nail polish that is enriched with calcium in it. This way your nails will look polished and good while being repaired. Or you could increase your calcium intake by drinking milk etc. But my best advice would be to use the calcium enriched nail polish. I've tried it before because my nails were brittle and constantly breaking so i picked some up from walmart for like 2-3 dollars MAX and it worked in like 1-2 weeks.

hope this helps you :)I just removed my acrylic nails and my real nails are ruined whats a quick fix?

  • How do I get my acrylic nails off?

I got acrylic nails and i want them off now because they look really gross. I don't have time to get them professionally taken off. I ripped some of them off and it just ruins my nails. HELP! How do I get my acrylic nails off?
Soak your fingertips in a bowl of acetone nail polish remover. It might feel extra cold, so first take TWO bowls, (one smaller and one larger) and put a small amount of warm water in it. Fill the smaller bowl half way with the acetone nail polish remover and place the entire bowl in the larger bowl. (This heats up the acetone without diluting it.)

Soak your fingers until you feel the acrylic starting to just dissolve. Afterwards your fingers will feel SUPER dry, so moisturize like crazy.

Your nails will be a little weak and fragile after this, but soon they'll get nice and healthy again.

Good luck! How do I get my acrylic nails off?
I just got mine taken off professionally, and though you say you don't have the time to do that, it took really quick. To do it yourself, you have to go out and get acetone remover and then soak for at least an hour. Then you first have to get the gooey remains off your nails and buff and polish them yourself. That takes time! I just walked into a nail salon, they sat me right down, and for $8 (in a fancy neighborhood) they removed them in 15 minutes. For a few dollars more (plus tip, of course) I got a regular manicure in which they buffed them, took care of the cuticles and applied clear polish. The whole thing took less than 45 minutes.
Polish remover doesn't work. You will need to use pure acetone. Pour some in a glass bowl and soak your nails. You will only be able to do one hand at a time. Soak them for about 20 minutes, then using an orangewood stick scrape off the loosened product. Soak and scrape until it's all off. If you remove your hand from the acetone while soaking it will start to set up again so keep it in the acetone.

If your acrylic nails had a gel overlay then you will need to file the top of the nail to break the seal of the gel otherwise the acetone won't budge the product.
Ripping them off is the worse thing you can do. You need to soak them in an acetone nail polish remover. Depending on the length it could take a few hours, however it is the healthiest way to do it. Once you remove them you should buff them to get rid of any ';flakes'; of your nail and then protect them with a clear polish. Sally Hansen has some strengthening ones that work really well.
Soak them in acetone nail polish remover. It takes a while, but it doesn't tear them like it does when you pull them off.

What is the best way to remove salon acrylic nails?

got a full set of nails at a salon a few weeks ago. I want to take them off, but I don't want to rip my nails to shreds. How do I remove them? What is the best way to remove salon acrylic nails?
You need to fill a suitable bowl with tip remover, if you don't have any use acetone (beauty industry type only), put the bowl of acetone in some warm water (to warm the acetone up). Apply a cuticle oil on finger ends (to moistuise and protect against drying effect of tip remover/acetone). Soeak yout tips for approx 10 minutes then use an orange cuticle stick to gently scrape away the acrylic (taking care not to scratch the natural nail bed), keep doing this until all acrylic has been removed. Finish by buffing nails , moisturise hands and apply cuticle oil all over the nail and surounding skin massaging it in. Wht ever you do, DON'T pour the acetone down the sink, soak it up with tissue and dispose of soaked tissue in sealed bag. If I can be of any other help contact me.What is the best way to remove salon acrylic nails?

Soak them in acetone until they get soft enough to remove. This may take a looooong time.

How can you tell if your gel or acrylic nails need to be refilled?

I had mine done a week ago and know you can see a little under half a mm of my nail. Does this mean i should get them refilled? How much should a refill cost%26gt;How can you tell if your gel or acrylic nails need to be refilled?
Well, with mine I have two signs. I get french-tipped so when I see the growth of my regular nail starting to get transparent, I know its time. Secondly, I take a look at the nail bed and how far away the acrylic has grown away from the cuticle. I get it refilled when a sixth of my natural nail from my nail bed is showing.

If you're getting a French, a good technique is to ask her to extend the white portion on your nail bed so it's thicker. That way, your natural nails don't begin to show for a while and you can go longer than a month on that.

Generally speaking though, you should be getting your nails filled again three weeks to a month. The price range here in Canada is $60 for a full set and $45 for a fill but going down to $40 for a full set and $35 for a fill. Yours depends on where you live, I would call around to ask for prices because many places charge different fees. You should also ask people you know about the service because it's not worth paying cheap every month if your nails are going to end up rotting. How can you tell if your gel or acrylic nails need to be refilled?
when your real nail is growing out, yes thats when you need a filling depends where you live i t usually range from 12-15
you need them infilled every 2 weeks, with only 1 week growth they should still look ok, infills should cost you about 拢15-17 approx

Is there an alternative to acrylic nails?

I've always worn acrylic nails, but I had them taken off when I was pregnant. My nails were totally ruined from years of wearing acrylic nails and they took months to look somewhat normal. I've had them off for about a year now and my nails are much stronger and actually grow now. The only problem is I really like the look of acrylic nails, but I don't want to have them put back on and ruin my nails again. Is there any alternative? Is there an alternative to acrylic nails?
I use this to file my nails then buff them, then I use an oil and lotion combination to keep my nails and skin nice. I use a clear coat sometimes too. It is nice to have nice, natural nails.

http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?鈥?/a>Is there an alternative to acrylic nails?
A lot of people have this misunderstanding that acrylics ruin your nails.

The truth is, the technician ruins your nails, not the acrylics. They ruin your nails by drilling away at your nailbed with an electric drill, and then they rip off the acrylics when you want them removed. That thins out the nails and damages them.

If you save another $20 or so and go to a high quality salon, they'll treat your nails a whole lot better and you won't have to worry about damaged nails.

But if you still want to try something else, you can try silk wraps. You can get them done on your natural nail, or with tips. They'll be very strong and you can remove them easily with polish remover.

I would suggest gels, but most gels can only be removed by filing them off (acetone won't work). A lot of salons will rip the gels off your nails once you want them removed, and you'll have the same problem again.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!
Gel nails are best. May cost a little more, but its better for your nails. U don't have to worry about them breaking so easily, it lasts longer and doesn't grow out as fast and most importantly less risk of nail fungus.

I just removed my acrylic nails and want to grow my ';real'; nails. What is the best product to help with this?

My nails are paper thin, which is why I had acrylics in the first place. The reason I removed them is that the nail tech split the matrix on one of the nails and it has to heal. This has happened before but I just waited and when the nail gre out I went right back to acrylics. Now I want to stop wearing them and go natural.I just removed my acrylic nails and want to grow my ';real'; nails. What is the best product to help with this?
Find a vitamin or supplement with lots of biotin in it. This helps your body metabolize protein better; since hair and nails are dead protein, this is the best supplement for them. Be sure you're getting enough protein, too. Sometimes the ';hair and nail vitamins'; have extra biotin, sometimes you can get biotin plain.

This would be a good addition to the Sally Hansen product, by the way. Your nails need more than one remedy. Give it time, like more than a month. Then you'll see improvement.I just removed my acrylic nails and want to grow my ';real'; nails. What is the best product to help with this?
Sally Hansen product worked the best for me.
Short term, start massaging some vitamin E enhanced lotion into your cuticles and wear some ';hardening'; nail polish. For the long haul, start taking vitamins like prenatal vitamins or a women's vitamin (prenatals are best even if you aren't pregnant) and take some vitamin E suppliments. They should strengthen your nails AND hair.

Everytime I apply the acrylic powder it gets all goopy and dries on my nails and they look bad.How do I stop this? When applying acrylic nails at home how do you get them to not look all clumpy?
First get a slower drying acrylic. Then it is really important to practice your consistency.

Dip your brush in the liquid and make sure that it is completely saturated. Press the brush at the bottom of the dish. You will probably see some bubbles rise up.

Wipe the back of the brush against the dish

Dip in powder and pull brush toward you slowly.

Pull the brush out of the powder. You should have a ball of acrylic. Wait 3 seconds and apply the first ball to the tip. Wait a second for it to spread and start shaping the tip

Repeat this in 3-4 balls, the next ball being just below the acrylic you placed on the tip. The third ball should be near the cuticle

When you apply the 2nd ball, stroke the acrylic to make it smoother. You can dip your brush in the liquid again to help it to not dry so quickly

You can also practice this on a piece of paper first

Where can I find a great Acrylic kit to do my own pink and white acrylic nails?

I've been getting my nails done professionally for years and I know with a little practice I can do them myself. Does anyone know a great all-inclusive acrylic nail kit for pink and whites that I can buy?Where can I find a great Acrylic kit to do my own pink and white acrylic nails?
Go to Sally Beauty and look for an acrylic brand called ASP. They have a trial kit that is like $28 or so which has everything you need to get started. It's a bit of an investment, but it's a decent brand of acrylic. If you don't want to spend that much at first, just go to like Walmart or a Walgreens and pick up an acrylic kit there for about $10 or so. I'm sure that with a little practice that you will be able to do them yourself in no time at all. It isn't difficult at all to do your own acrylic nails, so give it a try. It sure beats spending all that money in a salon! Good luck!Where can I find a great Acrylic kit to do my own pink and white acrylic nails?
Be cautious with acrylic nails, they are extremely damaging to your natural nails! The harsh chemicals used in conjunction with them open the door to bacterial infections and fungal problems on your nails.

Gel nails are a much better type, as they allow your natural nails to breathe and don't promote fungus and bacterial growth, while acrylic nails ';smother'; your natural nails and don't allow them to breathe at all.

    Good luck!
i would go to sally beauty supply...they would have everything that you would possibly need!

Hi there, of course you can hunny :) Why not try and give it a go yourself? You'll need a steady hand, but with a bit of practise and patience, you'll get there :) This way, you can change the look yourself without the expense of going to a salon all the time when you want to update. You'll need a good base coat, colour of your choice and two coats of a hardwearing topcoat.
Of course it's possible. by the way, try acrylic nails dual system forms, watch videos on the Web.
Of coursee. Whenever I got mine done they sprayed it. (:

not very long at all actually...How long do my natural fingernails have to be to get acrylic nails?
Since the acrylic is going to cover your natural nails, it doesn't matter. Just as long as their not chewed down the the nubs...then you might have an issue with the glue sticking to your skin.
any length....actually the white part of the nail doesn't even have to show. So, depending on how far you bite your nails, you can still bite them on the way to the shop :-)
i wouldnt recomend acrylica because they really ruin your nails
    any length.
My wife bites her nails and occasionally gets fake ones to stop the chewing (temporarily). Some of her nails are maybe 5-6 mm and they still glue on and stay till my wife chews them off.

What's the best way to remove acrylic nails?

So I got acrylic nails three weeks ago and now they are starting to look bad. I just got back to my home in another country that doesn't do them. So my question is how do I get them off without ruining my real nails? What's the best way to remove acrylic nails?
Soak them in acetone. You can buy this at a beauty supply store. If you can't find it, nail polish remover with acetone will work, but just a bit slower. You can clip the length where you want it, and then let them soak for 10-15min. Then use an orange stick to gently scrape the acrylic off. Don't clip or pry it off. It might take a while for the acrylic to soften up, so you might have to repeat soaking and scraping a few times. By not picking and pulling the acrylic off, your nails will look much better. You may need to use a buffer on your natural nails to smooth them out when you're done. What's the best way to remove acrylic nails?
soak them in acetone nail polish remover for a while to soften the acrylic. then either use cotton balls to rub them off or a cuticle stick to lift them off your real nails. then make sure to clean and moisturize your real nails afterwards to protect them from any damage caused by the acrylic and glue. good luck!
SOAK them in nail polish remover, preferably an acetone-based remover. They are adhered to your nail with a nail polish-like substance that dissolves in acetone. Then after they are soft, use a nail clipper around the sides to loosen, and then a nail file to lift them off.

You could also file them smooth around the edges and re-polish them until they grow out. If you put a base coat on, they don't look bad at all.
    Acetone.

If you can't find straight acetone, try extra-strength(high acetone) nail polish remover.
i just soked them in water for awhile.

then i clipped of the tips.

(that way they are easier to work with)

the i just carefully lifted up the nail from the top

(enough to stick the clipper in)

then you just have to clip them of piece by piece.

NOTE: after your done, your real nail might have some white marks on them, but it will go away in a couple weeks.

    GOOD LUCK =]

My fake nails are starting to come off, and I want to get rid of them. What could I use/do?What's a good way to get acrylic nails off at home?
Best way is to soak them off in acetone, that is what they would do at a nail salon and then charge you 10.00

Sometimes I get impatient and use nail clippers and try to lift them myself. That is not the best way but the lazy way! What's a good way to get acrylic nails off at home?
cut them down to your natural nail and soak them in acetone.

it takes a while, so be patient. but they do come off.
Soak in acetone. Acetone's not nice on your skin, but it's the only way to get the job done.

    Here's what you do:

    1. Trim the tips off your nails. Use nail clippers to get down to where your natural nails begin.

    2. Either buy an acrylic nail remover tub (both Sally Hansen and Nailene make them- it's basically just a pot filled with acetone with velcro-type stuff on the sides) or just pour acetone nail-polish remover into a bowl. Use a glass or ceramic bowl and wash it really, really well afterward.

    3. Put your finger(s) so they're sitting in the nail polish remover.

    4. Sit there, doing nothing (I recomend tv or a magazine for this step).

    5. The acrylic should be a bit softer now. Wipe off any gooey yuckyness then use a nail file to wear the acrylic down even more.

    6. Soak in the acetone again (more doing nothing)

    7. Repeat steps 4-6 until there's no more nail left or until you can pry what's left off. They say you're never supposed to pry the fake nail off and that doing that can damage your real nails. I've damaged my real nails prying old acrylics off before, but it's hard to resist sometimes.
Super glue remover. they use super glue to stick the nails on, I'm figuring you might want to break down the super glue. just a guess
Get a bowl and pour nail polish remover in it. Soak your nails in it for 10 minutes, then try to pick them off with nail clippers or nail scissors. Keep on soaking to completely get them off along with the glue.

What do women think of men with acrylic nails?

I had acrylic nails done last week and just want a women's perspective on men having them done. Oh, and yes I am a cross dresser! What do women think of men with acrylic nails?
I've had them done before, in both color and French. Honestly, there were a lot of second looks and double-takes, but all of the comments I got were positive. Women tended to be either shocked, very curious, awed, or green with envy that my nails looked better than theirs! Definitely a conversation starter. What do women think of men with acrylic nails?
I've never heard of a guy having it done and I think I would think it was a little strange to see it. That's probably only because I've never seen them on a guy before. But I have seen and am okay with nail polish on guys so, to each his own! If you like it, that's all that really matters.

I'm not really a huge fan of acrylics anyway, your nails look so weak after having them on for a while, be careful and don't wear them for weeks on end, you need to let the nail beds ';breathe'; every so often.

Frankly, I don't think that I have ever seen a man with acrylic nails so I am not sure how I would respond. If you are a f/t cross dresser then I think that it is very appropriate as you are dressed as a woman most, if not all of the time. I hope that they give you the desired effect that you were looking for.
I say, Its there style and they can do what they want. I'm not the type of person to judge someone if they are a cross dresser or gay or bi it doesn't matter to me. They just have to worry about how society is gong to accept them. I think that as long as it makes the person feel beautiful, regardless the gender, than go for it.
i think it is creepy...well, maybe not for a cross dresser, but still that is just creepy...i mean that you cross dress...are you like one of those people who feel like they were supposed to be agirl, but was born in a boys body? if so, thats so sad..:( if not, and your just

    ';odd'; then...well, your creepy.
I'm open minded, but I must admit haven't heard of it in straight men before, but as your a cross dresser its definitely normal to wear acrylic nails as that is what a lady does!
Well if you are Gay or a Tranny or a Cross Dresser, I guess fake nails go along with the rest of the decor.
Definitely a homo, but can probably do good hair.
oh well your a cross dresser.

but i wouldnt date a guy or take a second look with acrylic nails.

    haha. funneh
I dont like acrylics on girls so just imagine what I think on men.
with your flair for the unusual, I find it interesting that you would care what anyone thinks and just do what you want
    Drag.

    Gay.

Trying to be funny, when they arent.

lol, Im not trying to be mean, just what i think.

whaaaaaaat. i guess if you are a cross dresser then its okay...haha.
    not good.
    GAY!! lol

Do I really need this to apply acrylic nails?

I've been looking at videos online, and I want to do my own nails using nail tips. I see that they just buy the tips, glue them on, and clip them. Then they use some powder and some acrylic glue. Do I really need to buy these, or is it just something extra to make your nails look special, and isn't really required. If it is required, where can I find the acrylic glue and powder. Thanks.Do I really need this to apply acrylic nails?

  • How do you remove acrylic nails WITHOUT going to a salon?

I got fake nails about two or three weeks ago and now i want them off. i dont want to go to a salon and i have already tried soaking them in Acetone for over an hour and i have clipped some of the fake nail off but the acrylic nails are still on. please help me!!!How do you remove acrylic nails WITHOUT going to a salon?
As a licensed manicurist you should never ripped your nails off!!!! Thats so damaging to your nails.

Since you have already filed the top layer of your acrylics you should be able to soak them off. Depending on what kind of product was used, it can take any where from 30 min to 1 hour of pure soaking. You should notice after 10 mins in acetone your nails are either a gummy or stringy texture (based on the product) start scrapping the acrylic...with your nails, orange would stick, cuticle pusher, etc. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT to leave you nails in the acetone for 10 min increments.

    Hopefully that helps any.

Your doing the right thing....it's just gonna take a while. Look at it as a chance to start new. Have you tried a dremel tool? They make them specially for nails.

How do i remove acrylic nails, the new gel kind?

I just had acrylic nails put on and apparently they were done the new with, with a gel instead of a powder. I have never had this kind before and when i have had acrylic nails in the past, i used acetone to remove them. Will soaking my nails in acetone remove this gel kind of nail also? I don't like them so i want to remove them ASAP!

Ps- I do not reccomend this new way of nails. There are little bubbles in the nails you can see from the gel. I think the power/old way of having nails put on is much better! The results are the same minus the little bubbles. How do i remove acrylic nails, the new gel kind?

Is there any home remedy to remove acrylic nails?

Acetone as stated before. But I would defiantly go back and have them removed, it is virtually painless if you let them do it and they buff up and shape your real nail and it is a lot healthier and less fragile when they do it.

If you do it yourself it will peel off several layers of your real nail and they will be unhealthy for a while afterwards...brittle and flakey. Is there any home remedy to remove acrylic nails?
Most places that put them on will take them off for free if you ask.
acetone will take it off that wat i use as im a nail tech
get some acetone polish remover, and soak them for a while... like, at least 10 minutes. if you rip them off, it will take layers and layers of your nail, and you'll have weak, flimsy nails for at least a month. just be patient.
I have found that vegetable oil helps to loosen the glue that holds acrylic nails on. Soak your finger tips in a little warm oil for a minute or so. Worked for me. Also helps to remove finger nail glue from skin.

What is the best way to remove acrylic nails?

ok well i get my nails done pretty much every 3 weeks but i HATE when it's time to take them off because i just basically RIP them off and its painful, is there any less painful way i can remove them? besides goin to the nail salon because that's a waste of money lol. What is the best way to remove acrylic nails?
The best way to remove acrylic nails is to soak your finger nails in acetone (nail polish remover). You can buy pure acetone or go with nail polish remover w/ acetone which is available a your local wal greens or cvs.

1.) Pour a little acetone into a glass bowl just so it will cover your whole nail.

2.) Dip your fingers into the acetone, and keep them in there. The acrylic nails will start to get soft after a while adn just melt off.

3.) Remove your fingers from the bowl and thorughly wash your hand with soap and water.

    4. I would recommend to apply lotion to your hands, buff your nails, and apply a clear coat to your nails.

It is important that you make sure to was your hands after the acetone because it is a very dangerous chemical, but is useful if used correctly. What is the best way to remove acrylic nails?

If you get acrylic nails are your nails usually permanently damaged?

Like when u take them off are they damaged forever? If you get acrylic nails are your nails usually permanently damaged?
yes, it will damage them very badly....not permanently, but the glue they use basically will rip off your natural nail bed when you take them off and the chemicals they use are terrible for your nails, if you are wanting acrylic nails because you are trying to grow out your own natural nails, dont get them. if you bite them, try applying a product called Nail Bitter, it has a bitter taste and makes you not want to bite them, plus just think one your nails grow how beautiful your hands will look, and trust me you will get TONS of compliments!!!! :)If you get acrylic nails are your nails usually permanently damaged?
R U serious? Do your nails not grow or something? They grow out and you clip them off.. new nails... Mabey you should be looking at upgrades for your brain instead of your nails, blondie...
yes. well, until they grow out. plus, acrylic nails are SO out ans SO old lady. Plus theyre pretty gross, and stuff gets stuck under them- gross. Trim your nails to the very end of your fingertip and square them off. Dark colors are very in for winter, and so are all shades of red. Have fun with your nails, don't get stuck with ripped up, sanded down nails!
No, nails always grow. so, they can never be permanently anything!

  • How long would it take a junior nail technican 2 do acrylic nails?

Getting them done on tuesday and just wondering how long its likely to take as im in work and will need to let them know in advance if im gonna be lateHow long would it take a junior nail technican 2 do acrylic nails?
    Hi there

To be honest it totally depends upon the Junior. Sometimes you are only classed as a junior because you have a Senior Tech there already. The junior may have been doing nail enhancements for a month or a year and even if they have been doing them for a year, they may still not be up to speed depending on how many clients they have. Typically though, you are best off allowing around an hour and a half to two hours.

Also, I'm not sure what salon (or Tech) you will be going to, but if they use an electric file make sure they don't go anywhere near your natural nail with it. They shouldn't have to 'rough up' your nail plate either if they are using a quality system, they should only have to remove the shine from your nails gently using a fine grit hand file.

Hope this helps and enjoy your nails :)

Do acrylic nails cover the tip of your nails or the whole nail?

do acrylic nails cover the tip of your nails or the whole nail? If so, if the acrylic nails only cover the tip, would this cause any damage. to your regular nail?Do acrylic nails cover the tip of your nails or the whole nail?
Yes they cover the whole of your nail and they damage your nails considerably. People who have them all the time tend to have paper thin nails which are very brittle and are painful to touch

edit: Yes you will see your nails are damaged once you have them taken off. If you take them off yourself you will cause more damage from ripping them upDo acrylic nails cover the tip of your nails or the whole nail?
They cover your whole nail. Whether there is damage or not depends on how long you continue to get acrylic nails. If you wear them long enough your nails will become softer and easier to damage.
they put on a tip and cover the rest with acrylic
yes, it does damage your whole nail. The tip is only half way on but the acrylic overlay covers all. It will fry you own nails --

Been there, done that - moved on
everything you have to have attached to your nail will damage it but you can go back and pay for it to be removed with that liquid but when you get it wraped it grows out and stuff but hopefully your rich you ccan go every week to get it filled in lol
They cover the tip but then the people but some goo which covers the whole nail. The goo then turns hard. So when you take them off they come out a one whole nail.
A tip is applied to about 1/4 to 1/2 of your actual nail and acylic is applied over that and the remainder of your nail...so yes, the entire nail is covered. Yes, it is damaging to your nails. My suggestion would be to soak them off rather then attempting to rip them off (which some people do). It takes a lot longer to soak them but it is less damaging to your nails then to try to pry/rip them off. And if you take them off after only getting them done once the damage will be pretty minimal (although everyone's nails are different). Bear in mind the longer you have them on the more damage will be done.
If you do not like your nails...just let them grow out but you need to go to get them trimmed when they get too long. It will take long but you will have newly grown nails. Why did you get them ???
They cover the entire nail, not just the tip.

They should be using a file not a drill to rough up your nail. I think that its just too much, especially if you have thinner nails to begin with. It really should not hurt

I'm typing with my acrylics too :)Why do my nail beds hurt after having acrylic nails put on?
Any salon that is Tammy Taylor trained will not use a drill. You can go to her website at tammytaylor.com and find a salon in your area or email them. They are super friendly and I am sure will be happy to help you out. Also, you can call salons in your area and ask them if they drill to rough up

I have to agree with you they look nice, but..... stick to your natural nails, the risks aren't worth it. Acrylics set you up for the risk of fungal infections, not to mention the bacteria that get trapped under them and that get trapped between your real nail and the acrylic when your natural nails start to grow out.

A pair of press on's for a special occasion, sure, but for day to day, stick to a natural, modest length natural nail.
It will be very diffult for them to airbrush your real nails unless they are very long, and they wouldn't probaly come out nice. I've been getting acrylics and nail designs for years and airbrushes can actually come out really bad sometimes and get on your actual skin and not come off for a longggg time. It depends where you go though. But every nail salon (atleast chinese nails) will do hand designs on real nails, which come out very pretty. To make it very pretty you should tell them to add a little glittery silver to make it pop and look beautiful. Hope this helps =]
no, they can do it on your real nails.. :o)

  • Is it possible to get professional looking solar or acrylic nails at home, doing them myself?

I like the French manicure type. What is the best kit to use or is there one that's just as good as the salon jobs?Is it possible to get professional looking solar or acrylic nails at home, doing them myself?
it is possible to get salon looking nails at home. Really, you dont have to go to a salon to get fab looking nails. All you need is nail tips (you can get any set- they usually come with glue and a nail file...some come with the acrylic gel too)...and then read the instructions. A good set will inform you of the do's and donts.

If you have been to a salon at least once, you would have seen what they do, how they do it. If the first job doesnt look so good- practice makes perfect, lol!

How do you care for new acrylic nails?

I just got new acrylic nails, and need some tips on caring for them.

I've heard about oiling nails twice a day - what is this, and where can i buy the oil?

    What is lift?

How often do I have to return to the salon for maintanence? How do I know when to return?

Can I change the polish at home? Can I use normal nail polish remover?

And how do I prevent the fungus/mildew from growing under my nails?

Thanks :DHow do you care for new acrylic nails?
Hey - I've had acrylics, gels and silks...so maybe I can help.

The oil is more for cuticle health than artificial nail maintanence. If your cuticles look healthy (not ragged) then it will enhance the overall nail look. I use Nailtiques Oil Therapy. It's about $6, and you can get it at nail places and sometimes drug stores (I got mine at CVS). I use it once a day...and my boyfriend makes fun of me (';can't you just use your regular lotion??'; men don't get it! haha). Plus it smells yummy.

';Lifting'; can happen when the nails are long and you use your hands too much - it hurts like hell sometimes. Just be really cognizant of everything you do - everything from carrying heavy bags to closing your trunk (trust me, I have painful experience). The nails might break off, which is sometimes a blessing in disguise b/c you don't want to have your natural nail ripped off. I sometimes use a little tiny dap of super glue to stick on the broken nail. Then use a buffer to smooth it out and put on a coat of clear. Keeping the nails shorter will help greatly to reduce any painful lifting.

You should go back every 1 1/2 - 2 weeks for a fill. Depends on how fast your nails grow out - but you'll notice the space and want to have it taken care of!

    You can change the color at home if you want, but make sure to use NON ACETONE remover. Acetone based removers will take off polish - but can also take off the nail. Granted, the acetone in polish remover you get at the drug store is less concentrated than the stuff they use in salons to remove nails, but it can compromise the nail's quality. Most non-acetone removers will say something about being ';suitable for acrylic nails.';

Infections can be a problem for some people. Sometimes the natural nail will become weakened from having the fake nails on, then the fake nail starts to separate away from the natural nail. Water then gets trapped in that space, and it's bad. That is why it's important to get them filled regularly. Make sure you go to a clean place b/c you don't want them touching you with dirty stuff, but chances are a nicer place will be able to recognize a problem should one arise and advise you on what to do.

I know that's a lot, but don't be intimidated. As long as you keep an eye on them, and don't over use your nails, they will look sexy as heck! I love having nice nails - but try keeping them a little on the shorter side b/c it will make things like typing easier and they'll be less prone to break! How do you care for new acrylic nails?
When your nails underneath start to grown out, about 2-4 weeks after getting them done is when i go get them filled, I wouldnt recomend doin the polich at home, they look better just the way they are ad if you do repaint them at home use non-acetone nail polish remover, the acetone will eat the nails away, Make sure you dont get anything stuck underneath of them wash your hands when needed and you shouldnt have a problem...
I have never heard of oiling the nails. And lift?? Don't know that one either. I go to the salon about every 2-3 weeks. You will know when you have to return. You can change the polish at home but use a non acetone remover. You can even take your own nail polish with you to the salon. You don't have to use there polish. I use a nail brush every night on my nails. And just scrub them with soap and water. You can get the brush at walmart by the cleaning supplys ( brooms, mops etc.) You should also about every 2 months have the nails replaced. Be careful about getting anything under the nails you really don't want fungus growing. Good luck.
They are pretty easy to care for. You can oil them if you want, but I never did. If you do want to oil them, go to a beauty supply store that is open to the public and get an oil that is compatible with acrylic nails.

Lift is when your acrylic nail lifts up and away from your real nail. This will not happen if you get your nails filled often.

I was on a 2 week schedule. My nails grew fairly fast and started to look pretty shabby and ragged after about 2 weeks.

As to when you should go, I would ask the nail tech who did your nails. What did she suggest to you when you had your nails done? If she didn't say, I would just keep an eye on my nails and if they start to look a bit beat up, then go. Usually about the 2 week mark.

You can change the polish at home, but make sure you use remover specially made for acrylic nails. If you use a remover with acetone, you will damage the acrylic and could cause problems that might require you to have the acrylic taken off and put back on.

You should not have any problems with fungus or mildew if you keep your nails maintained on a regular basis. If you let your nails go too long between maintenance, they can get very small lifts or cracks in them and water will seep in between the acrylic and your real nail and start to grow beasties. So don't wait too long.

What are some alternatives to acrylic nails?

I want a classy nail w/o so much damage..My nails are still thin from my last trip for acrylics.. I vowed to stay away. What are some alternatives to acrylic nails?
you could try manicures..... or wraps.......but in all honesty anything that has chemicals in it is bad for nails......

And an FYI.....enhancements don't ruin nails....it's an unknowledgeable tech who ruins them......What are some alternatives to acrylic nails?
Gel doesn't seem to damage them as much as acrylics. What about letting them grow naturally and getting regular manicures?
I used the solar nails, which aren't too different from acrylics, but they were much healthier for my nails, I took mine off last monday after 11 months of wearing nails, and went and got a manicure last night and you would have never known that I just took off my nails.

Can the chemicals from acrylic nails make your real nails fall off?

I had acrylics on for a few months and recently had them taken off. Now my real nails seem to be slowly coming off. There is no pain/swelling/redness/fungus. None have fallen off completely, but a few seem to be detaching themselves from the skin. Can the chemicals from acrylic nails make your real nails fall off?
Depends on the acrylic used. MMA (methyl methacrylate) IS a very harsh chemical, and is actually banned in many places for use in nail enchancement, as it can cause lots of problems, alothough some nail techs are cheap and use it anyways. That may be a possible cause. Fungus may be another one. Aside from that, im not sure what it could be. Just keep your nails and cuticles hydrated with oil or cream and hope for the best. Can the chemicals from acrylic nails make your real nails fall off?
omg yes. it happened to me. it makes your nail brittle and soft. if you do it once you have to keep doing it because you wont be able to use your own nails. i recommend you dont use acrylic nails or a wrap.
Yes, acrylic nails can affect your real nails permanently. Some people don't have a problem at all and some do. My mom's nails split up the middle and never grew back whole...
Thats completly normal. In about a week they should become normal again

    Acrylic Nails?

I was wondering how long they last, how much they are, what are silvertips and natural tips, how short they come, and about how strong they are? Oh and also when I go into the salon, should I have removed my previous nailpolish to make it easier for them, and do my nails have to be a certain length before they put them on, because right now they are pretty long.

Not a lot of questions or anything right.. haha but its appreciated!Acrylic Nails?
they last about 2 weeks, are are 20-35 dollars if you go to a salon (if you just get the glue on ones the last about 3 days and are 5 bucks) and theyre pretty strong (ive never had one break) but be gentle with them...and take off your nail polish because they'll charge if they have to take it off, they can be any length but its better if their shortAcrylic Nails?
Usually about two weeks they will last and then you will have to go and get them filled. You'll have to search around and find a place that you like because sometimes when you get your nails done you will notice that your fake nails will start to lift around the cuticles and stuff. When they first put the nail on they are very long and they will ask you how long or short you want them. You should remove your previous nail polish just to make things easier for them. The nails are very strong. It hurts really bad if you rip one off. They cut your real nails down for you so you dont have to worry about that. Have fun getting your nails done! it's fun and they look really nice.
They usually last 2 weeks, then you can get them filled.

Uhm, most of them range from 20 - 30 dollars.

You can get them as short or as long as you want.

    They are very strong.

They will cut your nails and everything for you....

    Acrylic nails?

has had a reaction to acrylic nails?Acrylic nails?
I hate when I hear this - there could be many reasons for this.

I don't care if you are going to a low or high priced place - it is hard to find a good nail tech that knows everything they should when apply product safely and properly.

The most common cause of this is OVER EXPOSURE - one of the products used on you was used in excess - probably the primer or the monomer in her brush was very wet and/or she touched your skin with the brush over and over again causing over exposure.

The nail technician could also be filing too much on your natural nail and or hitting your skin with the file too much - then when products get in the skin it irritates it.

The other cause could be an allergy you have to one of the products. - Overexposure can cause allergies to the products too. I have a few loyal clients now that used to have that problem wherever they went until they came to me. Please find yourself a quality nail tech - If you are not allergic to her product she might be able to solve this for you. Good Luck !

I don't understand? Did you have like a allergic reaction?
well take them off...and this isnt a question
I had acrylic nails forever and never had a reaction, but think about all the chemicals. Ever wonder why the girls wear surgical masks?

I even had a woman who was doing my nails tell me that a lot of salons use airplane glue to make it last longer. I'm completely serious and so was she.

Go get them removed or do it yourself by soaking in acetone (what most nail polish removers are made of but read the bottle) and use a something thin and sturdy to separate them from your real nail. (in NYC we use our Metrocards)
