Can acrylic nails damage your natural nails in the long term?

I'm asking this question because I have never had acrylic nails applied before.

But I've been thinking about getting them done this weekend. I'm just wondering do they permanently damage your natural nails?

And also how hard is it to look after them? Then remove them? Can acrylic nails damage your natural nails in the long term?
Depending how you get them done, the general and cheapest way is by grinding your nail down a little before they put the tip and acrylic on. If you keep getting them filled (redone/fixed up) you will damage your nails further, but it will just take longer for the roughness/crappy nail to grow out then you are fine and it is gone.

If you break a nail you can always go back to the same salon and have them fix it for a few dollars, and you typically need to get them taken off or filled every 2 weeks, because that's when they start to grow out and look bad with a space between your cuticle and the acrylic.

To take them off you can go back to your nail salon, they might charge you $5-10. When I was younger I just took mine off, and it was always a mess and looked really bad because it ripped off some of the nail with it. It made my natural nails look gross and paper thin for a few months. Can acrylic nails damage your natural nails in the long term?
OMG YES!!!! im warning you to not get them. yes, they look beautiful while u have them, but they mess the crap out of ur nails. the last time that i had acrylic nails was a little over a year ago, and my nails are just now free of damage. when u take the nails off, ur natural nail looks horrible. trust me.
They do damage the nail underneath, but it grows out so the damage isn't permanent. They are hard to get off and you have to have them filled in every couple weeks or they look trashy.
Damge but only temporary because new nail tissue is developed over again
they won't perm. damage your nails.

after you take them off, it looks like your nails are peeling at the surface.use a nail filer and file the top (surface) of you nails then use a clear coat to put over them and it won't look so bad.
I had them on constantly for about 3 years. I've not had them on for about 4 now, but my nails were fine, they were never damaged or brittle.

They're really easy to look after, it's best to get them removed at the salon rather than pulling them off yourself :)
acrylic and glue and total shwag for your nails once you get them taken off your nails look horribly unhealthy
Acrylic doesn't hurt people, people hurt people! Acrylic has gotton a bad name because

#1. A large number of techs agressively ';etch'; and ';drill'; your natural nail prior to application and during fills

#2. You either rip/pop them off yourself or even worse your sorry excuse for a tech pops them off instead of taking the time to disolve and buff the product off.

As long as you go to a reputable nail tech and stay away from the local $20 nail shop, you should be ok.
I have had mine done for months. You have to get them filled about every 2 weeks. They are very hard to get off yourself-you can have the nail people do that for you if you were to want them taken off though. They dont PERMANENTLY damage your real nails, but they do make them weak after you take them off for about a week, they they just grow out and go back to normal. Its not hard to look after them at all, liek i said-they need to be filled about every 2 weeks and it costs about 12 or 13$. Not bad-I LOVE THEM!!!
They're a pain to get off, you usually have to grow them off. Otherwise you have to keep getting them filled like every 3 weeks or so depending on how fast your nails grow. They always make my real nails REALLY thin. And my real nails are usually very thick and healthy.
yes definitely if you wear them all of the time. not to mention the fact that those things get so much nasty bacteria and stuff under them.

when you take them off your nails are flaky and brittle. they're ok for occasional wear, but i definitely wouldn't recommend wearing them on a regular basis.

don't believe the person that said it only takes a week for them to get back to normal. that is NOT true. it takes at least a month. the nail that you artificial one is glued to more or less gets destroyed so your real nails won't be nice again until the icky parts grow off.
